Sheaffer - Asia Series "Royal Selangor" Bamboo Pen

This is the pen the start it all. The first pen in my collection.

In 1996, Sheaffer decided to make a series of Asian theme pens. They start the Asia Series.
The Royal Selangor Bamboo pewter pen is the first in the series.

The pen is based on their top of the line Connaisseur model which they are phasing out. Royal Selangor is a Malaysian company which produces heirloom quality pewter objects. The company has never make any pewter pen before. Neither did Sheaffer. I have always love the pewter product made by Royal Selangor. And being a pen collector, this pen is a perfect match.

This skill artisan in Royal Selangor first made a sculpture of the pen. This is then used to make a moulds for casting of the pewter pens. Every pieces are then finishes by hand.

After BIC bought Sheaffer, the Asia Series was discontinued. So this will be the first and last in the series. What make this pen unique is it sort of became a limited edition by 'accident'.

The purchased of this pen spur me to research more on Sheaffer pens. Sadly, Sheaffer seldom produce limited edition pens. I was attracted by pens made by other company like Parker and Namiki. Looking back, today's pens are made limited edition on purpose and are made annually. It's a never ending process. I shouldn't have given up Sheaffer.
